Abbreviations

This crochet sweater pattern is written in US terms, but the instructions are easily translatable if you’re using a different language.

To begin this crochet sweater pattern, you will need to gather your supplies. You will need two colors of yarn (one for the body of the sweater, and one for the trim), a hook size H (5.00 mm), and scissors.

The body of this crochet sweater is worked in a circular shape with an increase at the end. The instructions are written in standard US terms, but they can easily be translated into UK terms by changing ‘ch’ to ‘dc’ and ‘tr’ to ‘rep’. To begin, chain 180 (or any multiple of 12).

Afterwards, join your newly created chain with your first foundation ch stitch (this should be located at the bottom edge of your circle). Work 3 dc into the same st as your ch-chain (this forms your first stich). *Ch 2, sk 2 sts; work 3 dc into next st* rep from *to* around (12 sts). Finish off with a sl st in top of beg ch-2 sp.

Next, start working your edging on either side of your sweater. Begin by working a single crochet stitch in the same st as your beg ch-2 sp. *Work 1 dc into next st, then work 1 sc into next ch-2 sp* rep from *to* around. Finish off with a sl st in top of beg sc.

Finally, we will work the trim. Start by working a ch-2 sp at the bottom edge of your circle. Work 3 tr into the same sp (this forms your first stich). *Ch 2, sk 2 sts; work 3 tr into next st* rep from *to* around (12 sts). Finish off with a sl st in top of beg ch-2 sp.

Special Stitches

1. This is a sweater for a baby that is made with only two stitches! The stitches are single crochet and half double crochet.

2. To make this sweater, you will need to start by making a magic ring and then crocheting 12 single crochet in the ring.

3. Then, yarn over and insert your hook into the next stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over and insert your hook into the next stitch, pulling up a loop (3 loops on your hook). Yarn over again and pull through all 3 loops on your hook (2 loops left on your hook). You now have created a foundation chain (ch) of 12 stitches.

4. Half double crochet in each of the next 6 stitches (6 DDC), yarn over and pull through all 6 loops on your hook (5 DDC left on your hook). Yarn over again and pull through all 5 loops on your hook (4 DDC left on your hook).

5. Single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches, yarn over and pull through all 5 loops on your hook (4 SC left on your hook).

6-12 Repeat steps 4-6 until you reach the end of the round.
