Step 1: Fabric Selection

Step 2: Base Tissue Preparation
Cut a piece of the base fabric to the desired size for your block. An 8″ x 8″ square usually works well, but you can adjust the size to suit your preferences.

Now, cut strips from your colored fabrics. The strips can be of different widths, but a common size is about 2 inches wide. The strips can vary in length as you will adjust them to the base fabric later.

Take a strip of colored fabric and place it diagonally across the base fabric. Leave a small seam allowance at the top and bottom of the base fabric. Now sew the strip into place along the center of the strip using a sewing machine or hand sewing.
Step 5: Adding More Strips
Repeat Step 4 with other strips of colored fabric, overlapping them slightly with the first sewn strip. You can align the strips randomly or follow a specific pattern, such as a color gradient.
Step 6: Pressing the Seams
After adding all the strips, turn the block over and, with an iron, press the seams to accommodate the fabrics.
Step 7: Trimming the Block
Now, trim the block so that it is even and to the desired size. Trim away any excess fabric that is beyond the edges of the base fabric.
