What is an Angel Christmas Ornament?

Angels are the perfect addition to any Christmas tree. These crochet angel ornaments are easy to make and can be made in a variety of sizes. They make great gifts for anyone who loves angels.

The angel ornaments are made using a simple granny square pattern that is easily adjustable for different size trees. The pattern includes instructions for both a small and large angel ornament.

How to crochet an Angel Christmas Ornament

This crochet angel ornament is a quick and easy project that would make a beautiful addition to your Christmas tree. The pattern is written in U.S. terms, and includes instructions for making both the wings and the body of the angel.

To make the wings, start by chaining two stitches together (counts as one stitch), then work 2 double crochets in the same space. Chain two additional times, then work a double crochet in each of the three chains created.

You’ll have six chains left; turn them into loops and poke them through the top of the first double crochet to create the wingtip. Do this again with the other wingtip, then finish off by making a slip knot and pulling through all six loops to secure.

For the body of the angel

Start by working a single crochet in each of the eight spaces around the border of your yarn ball. Then work 2 double crochets in each space, followed by a single crochet in between each pair of doubles (eight total).

Chain two additional times, then work a double crochet in each of those new loops (12 total). Finally, work another single crochet inside each previous single crochet loop (24 total). Fasten off, leaving a long tail for attaching to your ornament base.

Now it’s time to add your angel to her cart! To do this, take your wings (one at a time), fold them in half so that they form an “X”, and poke them through the top of the body. Then, pull the tail through all three loops to secure. Repeat with the other wing.

Finally, thread your yarn through the top of both pieces of angel wings, then through the top of the body. Pull tight to create a nice shape, then tie a knot in the end to keep everything securely in place.

What materials do I need for this project?

Materials:

-Crochet hook size H (5.0 mm)

-Worsted weight yarn in black, light green, and brown (approx 120 yds each)

-Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

-6 mm black safety eyes

-Stitch marker

Notes:

-All stitches are worked in the round.

-The eyes are worked in the same stitch as the nose, so be sure to working them through the back loop only.

-Any extra yarn that is leftover can be used to create a pompom or hair accessory for your rabbit.

What are the steps for crocheting an Angel Christmas Ornament?

There are a few steps involved in crocheting an Angel Christmas ornament. The first step is to choose the right yarn and crochet hook. Yarn should be soft, yet strong enough to hold up to wear and tear. The crochet hook should also be of the right size for the yarn you’re using.

The next step is to create your base piece. This will be the foundation of your ornament, so make sure it’s big enough to fit your desired pattern. To start, chain 51 (or any multiple of 3). Next, single crochet in each chain (roughly), making a circle.

To add more interest to your base piece, start adding alternating increases and decreases around the edge of the circle. These will create a petal-like shape. When you’re finished, join the rounds with a slip stitch into the first chain you made.

Now it’s time to start adding details to your ornament! For the wings, start by chaining 2 and doing double crochets all around the edge of your circle. Once you’ve finished that, work 3 dc into each double crochet (12 total). Make sure not to twist these stitches!

Next:

Work 1 dc into each of the 12dc from before, then work another 3 dc into each of those stitches (15 total). Chain 2 and turn your work so that it looks like this: You now have two pieces – one with 15 sts on it and one with 12 sts.

To create the second set of wings, chain 3 and do double crochets all around the edge of your circle. Work 1 dc into each dc from before (6 total). Chain 2 and turn your work so that it looks like this: You now have two pieces – one with 6 sts on it and one with 3 sts.

To finish off your angel, chain 1 and do a slip stitch in each of the 3 sts in the middle. Tie a knot in the end to secure it. Then, attach your wings by sewing them on either side of the knot.

Conclusion

It’s that time of year again! Time to start thinking about gifts for your loved ones and what better way to show them how much you care than by giving them something handmade.
