Free Crochet Patterns for a Granny Poncho
There are many crochet patterns for a granny poncho, but this simple version is made from an easy-to-find yarn and is perfect for winter. The poncho can be made in any size you like, and the textured fabric is perfect for keeping you warm on a cold day.
To make the poncho, begin by crocheting a chain of 168 stitches. Work 2 single crochets in the second chain from the hook and then work 1 double crochet in each of the remaining chains. Fasten off and weave in ends.
The next step is to sew the two sides of the poncho together using a basic seam allowance of 1½ inches (3 cm). First, Sew along one long side of the poncho using a straight stitch.
Make sure to leave a 5-inch (12 cm) opening at either end of the seam so that you can easily pull on the poncho when it’s needed.
Then, fold up the other side of the poncho so that it covers half of your sewn seam allowance and sewing thread from both sides together. Now, use a running stitch to sew closed this edge.
Finally, poke some large safety eyes into each end of the opening created earlier and secure them with safety needle nose pliers. You’re ready to wear your new granny poncho!
