Next, work 4 chs in the first st from the hook.
Then work dc in each of the next 3 sts.
Work hdc in each of the next 2 sts.
Now work sc in each of the next 3 sts. You will end up with 8 dc, 8 hdc, and 4 sc stitches.
Insert your hook into the next st and pull up a loop (2 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through both loops on hook – now your stitch is crocheted. Do this again in the next st, making sure to keep your working yarn attached as you do so.
You’ll now have two dc stitches and two hdc stitches. (Make sure your working yarn is still attached when you make these new stitches – if it isn’t, tie it off somewhere safe before continuing.)
Work sc in each of the next 2 sts, then work dc in each of the last 2 sts. Your cowl should now look like this:
Finish off by tying off all remaining yarns securely. Weave in any loose ends.

Curve sc above into a loop by pulling through first sc and ch 2 below it but do not finish off yet! Turn your work so that your loop is facing downward again and continue working these instructions: Sc into top of first ch2 space created by previous row’s sc +dc, then hdc into same space; dc in each of the next 8 stitches.
Round 6: Chain 3 (counts as dc), make 2 dc in same stitch as previous round’s second dc, then make a sc in next 2 stitches. Dc in each of the next 10 stitches.
Round 7: Chain 3 (counts as dc), make 2dc in same stitch as previous round’s first dc, then make a hdc in next 2 stitches. Dc in each of the next 12 stitches.
Round 8: Chain 3 (counts as dc), make 2dc in same stitch as previous round’s second dc, then make a hdc in next 4 stitches. Dc in each of the next 8 stitches. You should have 20 sts at this point.
Join with slip stitch to top of first ch3 space created by previous row’s hdc +dc, then finish off weave hat together using remaining yarn and weave in any loose ends.
