What is a crochet flower?

If you love flowers, but don’t know how to crochet, this is the tutorial for you! This crochet flower is simple to make and can be a great beginner project. The flower can be made in any color or style, so be creative!

To start, chain multiple stitches to create a large base. In the next row, work 2 single Crochet stitches in each chain. Continue alternating between single crochet and double crochet until the flower is about 8 inches wide. Finish off with a slip stitch at the bottom of your flower.

Now it’s time for the fun part: filling your flower with petals! Start by crocheting 5 single Crochet stitches in each corner of your flower. Work additional single Crochet stitches into each stitch until you reach the top of your petal.

You can now add a basic shape to your petal by crocheting 3dc in one stitch, then chaining 2 (1dc + 1ch), working that same dc in the next stitch. Repeat until you reach the end of your petal. Be sure to ending off with a slip stitch at the end of your petal!

And there you have it! Your very own easy crochet flower tutorial!

How to make a crochet flower

Crochet flowers are a fun and easy way to add a little color and beauty to your projects. This crochet flower tutorial is perfect for beginners. You will need basic crochet skills and supplies to make this project. The finished flower measures about 2 inches wide by 2 inches tall.

To start, chain 36 (or any number that will give you the desired length of your completed flower). Make 1dc in the first chain from the hook. *Ch2, sk2p; rep from * all the way around the flower.

You should now have a ring made up of ch2 spaces, with no dc’s in them. Join the ends of your chain together, making a loop. You now have your starting point for crocheting in rounds (see photo below).

Round 1: Ch2, 5dc in loop, join with sl st to top of beginning ch2 (6dc).

Rnd 2: Sl st into next dc, working along both sides of foundation ch2 space, 5dc in each st (15dc).

Round 3: Ch1, turn work so RS is facing, sc in next dc, sk1dc from previous round, sc in next 2dc (16sc). Fasten off. Weave in any loose ends.

This is what your completed crochet flower will look like! If you want to change colors or add more petals, just repeat Rounds 2-3 as needed.

Crochet flower steps

There are only a few basic crochet stitches you need to know in order to create beautiful flowers. Here are the steps for creating a basic crochet flower:

Chain two and make a slip knot.

Row 1: In the second chain from the hook, work 3 double crochets (basic stitch).

Row 2: Chain one, work 2 double crochets in each of the 3 stitches from row 1.

Repeat Row 2 until your desired height is reached. To make the petals, chains will divide evenly between each ‘petal’ so it’s important to space them out evenly when crocheting them on.

For example if you’re crocheting 4 petals, chain 30 before beginning – this will give you 4 ‘petals’ with 10 chains between them. When working into rounds, be sure not to twist your chain as you go – this will keep your petals looking neat and tidy! Once your flower is complete, weave in any leftover loops with a yarn needle. Enjoy!
